Another Hole in One (or Two!)…..

June has seen two aces, Paul Jones getting his first ever ace at the youthful age of 74 years and 10months!! Lets hope he doesn't have to wait as long for the next one!!Paul aced the 7th with his 6 iron on 23rd June, whilst Colin Kemp fired his Pitching Wedge into the hole on 10 a couple of days ago on the 27th June!!..... Lee Dawson on 29th May makes up the three for the year to date, that's a quiet start as we had 10 last year!! Who is next then??...

Handicap Chairman grounds club (and himself) in water!!

Tuesday Seniors can sometimes be a stressful time........clearly it was today for Hugh Kerr, after playing 15 holes with Dave Burden and Ian Bonham..... They had started on the 4th and had arrived at the 1st. As Dave and Ian headed for the 1st fairway, Hugh had had enough and hurled himself into the pond......twice..... Apparently, Hugh had played a less than high quality tee shot, and had reached the pond....just. .. He could see a ball in approx the right area, and being a canny Scot, he didn't want to pass up on his 15 hole old Titleist, so armed with his trusty pitching wedge, he eased himself down the slope to retrieve it. Almost immediately, a great battle between a set of soft spikes, a steep wet slope and gravity began. Gravity won comprehensively, and as Hugh let out a cry as his feet went from under him, Dave and Ian turned just in time to see Hugh do a passable impersonation of a man on his back at a waterpark on the steepest chute...... He landed on his back and slid into the water, turned over and scrambled halfway up the bank. Dave and Ian were, to be fair, doubled half over with laughter....... Almost immediately, a great battle between a set of soft spikes, a steep wet slope and gravity began again. Gravity won - again. Hugh let out another cry as his feet went from under him, Dave and Ian doubled the rest of the way over which made it harder to see Hugh do a passable impersonation of a man on his front at a waterpark on the steepest chute...... After two dunkings, he finally made it out and for some unknown reason, declined to finish the last three holes...... To add insult to injury, he forgot to retrieve the ball whilst he was down there.......

The Chairman’s Clock Exposed………

Chairman Dave McGarry kindly donated a new clock for the bar, so he would be able to glance up at the bar and see what the time was, without having to retrieve his phone or look at his watch instead. Our previous one had succumbed to Covid .... Dave also donated a second clock to the kitchen so that he could be certain that his crispy bacon was crisped up for the exact amount of time he preferred!!! Many thanks Dave....they both look splendid!!

Another Hole in One…..

Mike Willis aced the 10th on Tuesday 9th November, much to the delight of the other 60 seniors playing in the medal......firing a 5 iron across the lake into the hole on the 10th..... This is Mike's first recorded ace and was happily in a competition so he got a £70 contribution to his bar bill from the insurance policy!! That is the 10th ace of the year to date....

Nothing Changes…..

Peter Kay used to provide moments of unintended hilarity when he worked for us....despite retiring some time ago, Pete still has the ability to do this and today was an exceptional example......

The Tale of the Missing Putter……..

Jake Kirby and Philip Black were booked in this morning.....Phil is here and says Jake will be along shortly, but he's just had to nip back up to see if the Bistro is open yet as he's left his putter in there! Now that's a new one on me.... getting ready for a night out and a few beers... Smart gear... check... keys...check...wallet...check...putter...check!! I'll have a word with the handicaps committee as someone who practises their putting down the Bistro can't possibly be off 18.....

Hole in one by the Captain…..

Captain Cook has sailed many times into the unknown.... Last weekend was a pioneering moment as well, as Paul Cook became the first Club Captain to have an ace in his year of captaincy! Paul is rarely shy of standing at the bar, but on Saturday 14th August he found that he was one of the most popular Captains the club has ever had!! Paul struck a beautiful 9 iron which avoided/was deflected by a number of canada goose poo's as it rolled back down the hill and into the hole!! That is the 8th recorded ace of the year so far and was Paul's first ever ace....
